Airstrike Claims Nine Lives, Including Four Children, in Gaza
Nine Palestinians, including four children, were reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike in the southern Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian sources on Sunday.
Witnesses and local sources indicated that an Israeli drone targeted a group of individuals in the Sheikh Nasser area, located east of Khan Younis city. Paramedics on the scene reported that medical teams recovered the bodies of the deceased and transported several others with various injuries to nearby hospitals.
In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed ongoing military operations in central and southern Gaza aimed at locating weaponry and dismantling militant groups.
On the same day, Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, Palestine’s minister of state for foreign affairs and expatriates, met with a delegation from the European Parliament at the ministry’s headquarters in Ramallah, located in the central West Bank. During this meeting, Shahin addressed the recent developments regarding the conflict in Gaza.
He highlighted the critical need for international cooperation to halt the violence in Gaza and underscored the importance of global recognition and judicial rulings affirming the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
This escalation comes in the context of Israel’s extensive military campaign against Hamas, initiated in response to an attack by the group on October 7, 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,200 fatalities and around 250 hostages taken. Health authorities in Gaza reported that the ongoing conflict has led to a staggering death toll of 43,341 Palestinians.
